LET’S GET ORGANIZED

Hello Friends,

A playroom is a magical space for kids to play and learn. For parents it can be a bit of a nightmare. Toys, art supplies and dress up clothes litter the floor and nothing ever seems to be organized. It doesn’t have to be this way! The boys and I worked together finding a spot for everything and create a playroom that the kids can use and enjoy, and a room that stays organized!

We first started with a empty room, and man was that hard… so many toys! A fresh start is the key!Sort everything into different piles. Having the kids involved is very important. Even make a donation pile, explain to the kids that it’s time for another little boy or girl to enjoy a toy that they haven’t played with in a long time or outgrown. We take our kids with us and have them drop off the stuff… they even wave bye and say have fun with someone else ♥️

Finding functional furniture. Moving this around to make the room feel comfortable and fun is important! Pull out bins are awesome, and you don’t need to fill them up all the way. Even label them with tags or pictures with what goes inside. It’s makes clean up easier! Small bags and bins for the smaller toys, and drawers for all millions train toys!

Make a Art & Craft wall. Somewhere to display all the great work! We added paint splattered decals bought off Amazon and a wall clothes clip from Target to hold up the crafts! Our LEGO wall is a lot of fun for little creative minds! The boys play with it for hours, we pull up different LEGO designs online and recreate them on the wall. We also added a magnet board on the wall from Amazon. Melissa and Doug offer many educational magnets that your child will enjoy and learn at the same time!

Sorting toys! Some items, like play food and dishes, can be stored in 3 drawer carts. (We used different sized ones for the train tracks). No need to break it down by set or specific type of food. Lump it all together and make it easy for kids to access and put away.

Puzzles are awesome, super educational but made of nothing but loose pieces, style of toys. I’ve seen all kinds of ways to organize puzzles from magazine stackers to stacking them in bins. Using a file folder is by far my favorite tip for organizing puzzles. It helps your child learn to play with one at a time and to put each one away. You can find Plastic Envelopes with String Closure at Amazon, Target and even the Dollar Store! You can stack up on top of each other or put them in a bin or Tupperware.

Add to your walls! Hobby Lobby, Amazon, and Target have amazing wall decals! Filling up the walls with stuff your kids love makes it feel more personal and enjoyable! We mixed up dinosaurs, construction and motivational quotes! It made the room brighter!

Reuse your plastic bags! Sometimes the the box a toy or blocks come in break or rip. We bought monster trucks that came in a cute clear bag, we put the monster trucks in the bin with all the other vehicles and reused the bag for our marble maze! Same with our wooden blocks! You can use zip lock bags! Anything clear and closable is perfect!

Bins are always fun! Divide your toys! Bowling pings in one and balls in another. We’ve made a bin for vehicles, magic track, dinosaurs, action figures and so much more. It’s okay if it’s not filled all the way! Helps keep it organized! Your child can pull the bin out, play and put it all back!

I know this is a lot of work but I promise it’ll be worth it! Enjoy ♥️

Let’s Make Dinner with Zayn & Zak

Last night, our boys (5 & 3 year olds) wanted to make us dinner. They love broccoli cheddar soup so we looked up the ingredients like Panera and Subway… and made it our own. This is a super easy recipe made under 30 minutes and even kids can make it! You can watch the full video on my Instagram or Facebook of the boys making the soup.

Having kids help in the kitchen benefits them in many ways. They learn and practice some basic math concepts like counting, measurement, and fractions naturally unfold when navigating a recipe with kids. And the experience of creating meals with you can help build their self-confidence and lay the foundation for healthy eating habits. Many lessons can be taught to the kids while cooking. Explaining how food changes with temperature or how certain foods can help our body be healthier provide great lessons in science. While cooking with your child, practice new vocabulary as you describe how food looks, feels, and tastes. Following a recipe from start to finish helps build the skills for planning and completing projects.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • 2 onions (one yellow and one red)
  • 2 cup shredded carrots
  • 2 ½ cups broccoli florets, chopped small (recommend fresh not frozen)
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 1 cup milk (we used almond, unsweetened)
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp kosher salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 2 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Chop up the onions, shred the carrots, and chop up fresh broccoli.
  2. In a large pot over medium high heat, melt butter. Add onions, carrots and broccoli. Cook to soften about 7-10 minutes (may be more or less depending on the size vegetables you cut).
  3. Slowly add in broth, milk, and cream. Sprinkle with flour and add salt and pepper. Continue stirring and heating over medium heat until thickened. This will take about 10 minutes.
  4. Once thick, add cheese and stir until melted and smooth. Serve soup and enjoy!

We had so much fun making soup. The boys were very proud of themselves and are excited to make us dinner again.

Here are more fun reasons on why it is important for your child to help you in the kitchen. Teaching kids the importance of staying safe while cooking by showing them how to hold kitchen tools safely, how to use oven mitts to protect hands from heat, and  how to turn appliances on and off safely. Always supervise children when cooking to ensure they are sticking with safe and age-appropriate tasks. The best way to keep cooking safe is to know your child’s abilities and his or her stage of development. A 3 year old child, for example, may not be ready to sauté vegetables over a hot pan, but may have the fine motor skills to rinse fruits or tear salad leaves.

Children feel more included in mealtime when they are asked to be a part of meal preparation. Collaborate with your kids when selecting recipes for main dishes or sides. Let them help you make the shopping list and find groceries in the store. Together you can decide what ingredients you should add to enhance the flavor. This will push them to be less picky eaters. Talk about how people enjoy different tastes, and share your preferences with each other. Letting children be “in charge” of details like how to set the table will help them feel invested in mealtime.

Enjoy! Don’t forget to follow me on Instagram and Facebook.

Mario Birthday Party

Last weekend, our oldest turned 5 years old! He loves Mario Kart and science experiments, so we put it together and made it: Mario went to the science lab. During the pandemic and numbers going up, we had to get creative and made it work safely!

The boys wore matching Mario sweatshirts made by me, check out my Etsy page: ByLalasCreations. My husband and I wore Mario t-shirts and I added Mama and Baba on them.

With a theme: Mario went to the science lab, I had to get creative. We decorated everything Mario and did a science experiment as the activity. We set up two 6 foot tables, with 4 chairs spread out on both sides. Added a Mario table cover and I made Mario hats for each child, added each child’s initial like the M for Mario. The kids looked so cute in their hats!

I created a slime kit for child. I got the idea from Educational Insights. We’ve made slime made times before, but they recommended some items to add to the slime and that was a total hit!

Slime Kit

Each kids got: one plate, one Elmer’s glue, a wooden stick and three mini cups labeled 1-3.

Cup one: 1/2 teaspoon on baking soda and 2 Tablespoons of water.

Cup two: 1.5 Tablespoon contact solution

Cup three: glitter and playfoam

Having the ingredients already measured and separated made the process smoother and fun for everyone. Each kid sat down and I directed them step by step on how to make slime. Parents stepped in and helped their child, the kids had so much fun! It was a super easy clean up and the slime fit perfectly in the 4 oz cups that we used for the steps. The kids got to take the slime home with them.

We had all of the birthday boys favorites for dinner time! We ordered Pizza and chicken nuggets from Detroit Pizza Factory! The nuggets were a success!! We made Mac and Cheese in the Crockpot (Boil elbow noodles, in the Crockpot add cooked noodles, whole block of Velveta cheese, 3 cups of sharp cheddar cheese and a cup or two of unsweetened almond milk. Cook on low for three hours and keep mixing). We made a 7-layered bean dip (vegetarian refried beans, guacamole, sour cream and taco seasoning mixed, salsa, Mexican cheese, sliced black olives, and corn). Lastly, we made a Caesar salad with extra croutons. We decided to make the same dinner menu as our youngest birthday dinner menu since it was a huge hit. And once again, it was a success!

The dessert table turned out amazing! Our birthday boy was super happy! The table cover, balloon arch kit, plates, napkins and banner were all from Amazon. I made all the Mario decals for extra touches on the garage. My mom surprised Zayn with the 60″ Mario balloon and other Mario balloons from Party City, he was so happy. And she got three boxes and wrapped them up with blue, red and green wrapping paper to add to our decor. The balloon arch took about a hour to make. The night before we blew up all balloons to save time and we used a electric balloon pump, highly recommend it!

We left the balloons all over the floor in the living room, Zayn was super happy in the AM when he came down the stairs.

My sister made the awesome cake, I made the cake topper (sold on my Etsy page). We made brownies using this Wilton Pan so every piece has for perfect corners, plus it looks neater. My my mom made cake pudding cups. I made sugar cookies, used a number 5 and star cookie cutter and added blue and yellow (turned more orange) food coloring. Lastly, we got the birthday boy’s favor cheese balls and added them to snack size zip-lock bags (covid safety) and added them into two red large cups.

It all turned out amazingly and huge success! We surprised Zayn morning of his birthday party with a beautiful happy birthday sign in front of the yard by Noah’s Signs. They also surprised Zayn with a super cute Mario Kart decal and displayed them as if there was a live game playing on our lawn! We’ve worked with Noah’s Signs many times and they never disappointed us. If you are in the Metro Detroit area, we highly recommend them!!

We were really worried throwing a party in our backyard during a pandemic in the first week of November. However, it was 72 degrees and everything turned out perfectly and all the kids were so happy. Especially our birthday boy! Happiest Birthday Zayn! We love you!

Rhyming Game with Sight Words

Here is a fun sight word learning activity! Like my Instagram and Facebook posts I made our own by:

Grabbing two sheets of construction paper (different colors). Cut one in four long rectangles and the other paper cut two smaller rectangles. Cut a slot on the smaller rectangles so you can move the larger one up and down. You can use the one small rectangle got two sight words, just flip it over and write on the opposite side.

Little tip: write an, ad, am and at in the top corner of the longer rectangles to help your kids remember which card goes with each other. Once your child masters all the A word families, move onto the O, and I families. Such as:

A: am, at, an, ab, ap, ag, ad.
O: ob, op, ot, od, ob, ock.
I: im, in, ip, id, ig, it, ick.

Since everyone loved our idea and a few moms asked me to make a worksheet, I took a little poll on Instagram and a lot of people answered yes. Here is the first worksheet you can print out tonight to do with your little one! Started out with the two basic AT and AN.

And just like that, your little one will learn how to read through play! Don’t hesitate to ask any questions. Enjoy. Don’t forget to tag @mamabaydoun in your posts!

I love feedback! If you thought this was interesting, please let me know so I can make more!

Coin Recognition Matching Games

Learning money and coin value can be hard for your toddler. Here is a fun way to make it fun, exciting, hands on and most importantly not overwhelming. These games were a huge success in our home and I wanted to share the fun! I am not sure what age you’re supposed to learn about money but I think once your child knows how to count and recognize numbers it is a fun new subject to learn! These games are perfect because it primarily focuses on the kids to familiarize the different types of coins such as size, color and appearance.

Here are two free printable work sheets for coin recognition.

These worksheets are fun and reusable. Your little one can sort the coins in different ways and it helps them familiarize the difference between each coin.

Ask questions, such as: How many cents do you think this coin is? Because this coin (nickle) is larger, is it’s worth larger than a dime? What are the different colors? What do you see on the front and back? And so on.

Watching him concentrate is so amazing. Learning to count money is boring and these are fun and much more exciting way to learn for your little one.

Coin Value Recognition can be very frustrating. This coin value recognition and counting activity is a fun way of sorting coins into a muffin tin. Touching the money and getting to understand what a quarter, dime, nickel and penny feel like is really cool for kids. Kids need to feel the money and be more hands on so they can learn how to count it and eventually use it.

Supplies: Muffin pan, baking cups, sharpie, play money or real money (pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters.

Directions: Line a muffin pan with baking cups and use a sharpie to write different money amounts on the center inside of the baking cups.

Have children fill in the baking cups using coins, counting the appropriate amount of money for each baking cup.

Don’t forget to check their work when done.

You can repeat this concept and rearrange the baking cups and have them do it again. Or give them more coins to sort.

For older kids, have them count coins up ti one dollar. It is the same concept above, just make the amount higher and the kids will have to combine multiple coins to obtain the correct answer.

This concept can be used for various age groups. Once your little one masters the recognition, they can move onto counting money.

Since Zayn is still learning the difference between the coins, he made a little cheat sheet to look at while is was sorting the coins in the muffin tin. He put two coins in each square, showing the front and back of each coin.

Kids need to learn about the importance of learning about money because it is a concept that they will need for the rest of their life. Kids will need to know about money at a young age to do the math.

This concept is so much fun! I hope your little ones enjoys is as much as mine did! Don’t forget to tag @mamabaydoun on Facebook and Instagram with your posts. We love to see our friends work with our worksheets and concepts!

Blippi Birthday Party

Our little guy turned 3 and he’s obsessed with Blippi! During the pandemic, it’s hard to plan a lot of things but everything worked in our favor and we had a blast!

All the Blippi outfits that Zak wore are from Blippi website. And I made the See You Later Excavator shirts for us (let me know if you’re interested in one).

Blippi theme is a wide range of stuff, from construction to dinosaurs to arts and crafts! Since we had the party in the backyard, I wanted to come up with some stuff for the kids to do. Rather than seeing them fight over the swings and slides. We set up two long tables with six chairs on each side for all the kids!

Each table setting had the following for every kid! I made a personalized apron with the child’s name and colorful paint splatters around it. I used both medium and large aprons, depending on the child’s size. I’m selling them if you are interested.

Each child got a pair of orange framed glasses. I also bought kids and adult sizes! I got these paint pallets from amazon, added a glass piggyback airplane for the kids to paint with washable crayola paint. We only did the three primary colors to keep it simple and less messy. We also set three paint brushes for the kids to use for each color so we didn’t have to set any water for them to keep dipping and risk a larger mess. The kids had a blast! It was silent during the painting part with how focused every child was.

We had all of the birthday boys favorites for dinner time! We ordered Pizza and chicken nuggets from Detroit Pizza Factory! The nuggets were a success!! I made Mac and Cheese in the Crockpot (Boil elbow noodles, in the Crockpot add cooked noodles, whole block of Velveta cheese, 3 cups of sharp cheddar cheese and a cup or two of unsweetened almond milk. Cook on low for three hours and keep mixing). I made a 9-layered bean dip (vegetarian refried beans, guacamole, sour cream and taco seasoning mixed, salsa, Mexican cheese, sliced black olives, cherry tomatoes, corn and green onions). Lastly, I made a Caesar salad with extra croutons since it’s the birthday boys favorite!

After everyone ate, it was time to decorate cupcakes! Instead of everyone digging their hands in the center of bowls of sprinkles, I used more paint pallets and filled them with 8 different sprinkles, candy corn and mini chocolate chips. Added a plain chocolate or vanilla cupcake in the center for the kids to decorate! That was a huge success! The kids went to town! Some just ate the sprinkles and cupcakes separate another made a tower on their cupcakes. Love to see everyone’s imagination!

The dessert table turned out so cute! We ordered the Blippi table cover, banner, plates and napkins off Amazon. I had a little too much fun with my Cricut! I added Zak’s name to the banner, and a ton of little decals on the garage. I also made this super cute Blippi cake topper. Made orange and blue jello, triple chocolate Ghirardelli brownies and my friend made these adorable Blippi cookies! My sister made this beautiful blue and orange cake! When we sang happy birthday, we blew the candle off a cupcake and not the cake due to Covid precaution!

The birthday was a huge success! We surprised Zak morning of his birthday with a beautiful happy birthday sign in front of the yard by Noah’s Signs. He also surprised Zak with a super cute Blippi decal next to his name!

We were really worried throwing a party in our backyard in the end of September but everything turned out perfectly and all the kids were so happy. Especially our little birthday boy! Happiest Birthday Zak! We love you 🧡💙

Spider Slider

Halloween is around the corner and I have two picky eaters. Here is a fun recipe that only is less than 25 minutes to make!!

Ingredients

  • Kings Hawaiian Sweet Rolls (24 count)
  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 3 onions (2 white & 1 red)
  • 8 slices of cheese
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Hidden Valley Ranch Seasoning (around 1/3 cup, I sprinkle and mix till I can’t smell the ground beef, and it smells more like the ranch)
  • Flat Tater Tots
  • French Fries
  • Ketchup
  • Sliced Black Olives

Instructions

Pre-Heat the oven to 400 degrees. Season the ground beef with Hidden Valley. We buy our meat in bulk from Saad Wholesale Meat, I food save them and freeze in 1 to 2 pound bags. Therefore, I had to thaw my meat first. Add the seasoning to your preference, I like to keep adding till I don’t smell the meat anymore.

Lay a baking pad or parchment paper on a large cookie sheet. Flatten the meat. Don’t forget, it will shrink up, I like to make the meat about 2 inches larger on each side than the roll package. Bake for 13 minutes.

In the mean time, chop and saute the onions with some olive oil. I like to use red and white onions to add more flavor. Grab the rolls, cut if you got the uncut ones, and lay the bottom piece on a new cookie sheet with a baking pad. By this time the meat should be done, cut it up in to 24 pieces and add them to the bottom of the buns. Add the onions on some or all. My little guy is picky and doesn’t like onions so I left some off. Add the cheese and top of the bun. Bake the sliders at 400 degrees for 5-7 minutes (depending how crispy you like them).

While the meat was baking, I added some tots and french fries to our Ninja Foodie Grill. I cannot express how amazing this machine is. I air crisped the tots and fries at 390 degrees for 12 minutes. When the sliders are done, add six fries to each slider, three on each side for the legs. Put a dot of ketchup on each tot for the eyes and add a black olive to each.

There you do, Spider Sliders! This is a super easy and fun dinner idea for around Halloween Time. My boys were super happy and stuffed! Enjoy! Check out my Jack-O-Lantern Pizza Dinner, too. Don’t forget to add me on Facebook and Instagram, tag me in your posts, I’d love to see what you make. Subscribe to my blog and never miss the fun!

It’s super easy! Pre-heat oven to 375 degrees, add baking sheet or parchment paper onto cookie sheet. Cut out two triangles for eyes and a smiley mouth with 2-3 teeth with a knife and a stem on top set aside.

Place uncut tortilla onto baking sheet, add pizza sauce, cheese and toppings of your choice. My boys love black olives and I centered them so you only see the black olive eyes. Add the cut-out tortilla that we set aside on top and bake for 4 minutes or until cheese is melted.

Lava Lamp in 5 Minutes

Here is a fun DIY lava lamp that you can do with things already in your house! This is a fun activity with a bit of science behind it. This DIY lava lamp requires no heat or electricity.  It is a perfect science project and indoor activity. It is not messy!

Here’s What You Need:

Instructions:

Grab a vase or a empty water bottle and fill it with about 1/3 of water and a few drops of food coloring of your choice. Stir it up or shack it up if you are using a water bottle.

Gently pour vegetable oil down the side of the container (tilt the vase while pouring). Oil does not mix with water, so the liquids will form layers.

Now for the magic and time to make it fizz! Add two Alka Seltzer tablets and watch the lava form! You can add the lid if you are using a water bottle. Enjoy watching your own lava lamp.

Don’t throw it away, after all the fizz goes away you can either add more Alka Seltzers to make it fizz again or set it aside and bring it out a few days later. You just need to add Alka Seltzers again.

Fun Science Facts to explain while the lava is forming:

The Alka Seltzer tablets contain organic acids and baking soda. When you drop them in the water, it sinks to the bottom and starts dissolving. In water, these substances react to release carbon dioxide gas. The gas bubbles pull the water to the surface and when the bubbles burst, the colored water will sink back to the bottom.

This was so much fun! Check out my social pages to watch a cool video of the lava lamp! Don’t forget to follow me on Facebook and Instagram! And, subscribe to my blog!

Oreo Donuts

Happy September!! Did someone say Oreo Donuts, yum! My boys love donuts and I found these amazing pans for us to bake donuts at home in 20 minutes!! Here is a fun chocolate donuts with creamy Oreo topping!

First, you need to make the chocolate donuts. You’re going to need the following: flour, brown sugar, salt, cocoa powder, baking powder, vanilla extract, an egg, butter, and milk. I used almond milk for these donuts, because my boys have a cows protein allergy but you can use whole, skim, reduced fat, or soy will all do the job.

For the Chocolate Donuts:

  • 2 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder, sifted
  • 2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large egg, at room temperature
  • 5 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup almond milk (any milk will work)

Oreo Cream Cheese Frosting:

  • 8 ounces cream cheese, very soft
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 and 1/2 cups confectioners’ sugar, sifted, more as needed
  • 2-4 tablespoons almond milk (any milk will work)
  • 1 to 2 cup Oreo cookies, chopped, for decorating (my boys favorite part)

Instructions

Chocolate Donuts:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees (F).
  2. Spray donut pans and set aside
  3. Mix together all the dry ingredients and in a separate bowl, mix together wet ingredients.
  4. Gently pour the wet into the dry bowl and fold ingredients together (don’t over mix).
  5. Spoon mixture into prepared donut pan, and bake for 9-10 minutes, or until the donuts spring back when lightly pressed. Be careful not to over bake here!
  6. Allow doughnuts to cool a few minutes in the pan before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Cream Cheese Frosting:

With a hand mixer, in a large bowl, beat together cream cheese, butter and vanilla extract until fully smooth. This part took about 90 seconds. On low, slowly add sifted powder. Add in the milk and beat frosting on medium-high for 1-2 minutes.

Assembly the Fun Part:

Spreading the frosting on top of each donut is so much fun. Don’t forget to sprinkle a few teaspoons of chopped Oreo’s.

It’s very easy to make, the kids will have so much fun making it. If you try this recipe, don’t forget to tag @mamabaydoun. Love to see all your fun creations.

This recipe makes 12 donuts! You can try chocolate frosting and sprinkles for a birthday. Or s’mores donut with cinnamon toast crunch, mini marshmallows and chocolate chips with chocolate frosting.
